Deputies: Man cooked meth with son in home

The home is located at 57 Crookshank Drive -- only 1,000 feet from Crookshank Elementary School.

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – A 39-year-old St. Johns County man was arrested on numerous drug charges and a child neglect charge Thursday afternoon.

James Koepfer was charged with manufacture of methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine, keeping a public nuisance structure for drug activity, child neglect and possession of drug paraphernalia, and was booked into the St. Johns County jail.

Deputies along with a Department of Children and Families investigator responded to the home at 57 Crookshank Drive, only about 1,000 feet from Crookshank Elementary School, just before 2 p.m. in reference to possible meth activity with a child present.

Deputies said they found evidence that was used to manufacture methamphetamine, and the Sheriff's Office Clandestine Lab team responded to continue the investigation.

Detectives said they found evidence of multiple cooks that have occurred inside the home. Deputies said they also believe Koepfer's young son was present inside the home when he was producing the drug.

The 5-year-old and the DCF investigator were taken to Flagler Hospital for decontamination.

Detectives were continuing the investigation.
