MIAMI BEACH, Fla. -

Miami Beach officials are trying to curb "party house" rentals.

They want to do this by making it a violation of city code to advertise  short-term home rentals.

Right now the proposal needs a second vote to actually go into effect after being passed in a preliminary vote.

In Miami Beach those renting a home can't for less than six months and one day.  The Miami Herald reports the city wants to make it so violations are better enforced.

Fines can be up to $20,000 but officials say it's not stopping people from promoting homes as a 'party house.'

Commissioners are aware a hefty fine doesn't discourage the people from renting outing luxurious homes.
