JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A woman living in the Washington Heights area of Northwest Jacksonville said she's in constant fear for her life after someone threw a Molotov cocktail on her car parked in front of her home.
Corlissia Kelsey said her car went up in a ball of flames early Saturday morning, and she saw the person responsible for the crime.
Jacksonville police said they have a suspect in the case, but they're not commenting any further because the investigation is ongoing.
Kelsey said she won't be able to rest until that person is caught, because she's worried he might come back and try to kill her.
"I can't sleep. I can't do nothing," she said. "All I think about is, is he going to kill me? Ain't nobody doing anything."
Kelsey said that at about 4 a.m. Saturday, something told her to look outside her window, a sight she said still terrorizes her to this day.
"I went out and looked out my windows, and I saw them throw it on my car, and boom," Kelsey said.
She said she ran out of her house and woke up her neighbors, worried that her car's gas tank was going to explode, but she said firefighters arrived in minutes and were able to put the fire out.
At Kelsey's home just a couple feet away from the front door, the charred remains are still there. Kelsey said investigators sent off samples to a lab in Tallahassee to determine what kind of accelerant was used.
"A Molotov cocktail, that's a completely out-of-control fire. It can spread to other cars, so that's extremely dangerous," said News4Jax crime and safety analyst Gil Smith.
Smith said it may take some time for police to complete their investigation. He's offering this advice for Kelsey until an arrest is made.
"Since she knows the person knows where she lives, she might be better off staying with relatives and friends if she's that afraid of her life, somewhere they don't know where she will be," Smith said.
"I cry every morning," Kelsey said. "I cry because I am still here. I get tortured every day by these people, and they have to do something. I'm tired."
Kelsey said she thinks the arson may have been motivated by a neighborhood dispute.
