Motorcyclist dies in crash on Westside

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A man riding a motorcycle is dead after he flipped into a car on the Westside Wednesday evening.

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said Shawn Steven Spanopoulos was riding east in the 6900 block of Argyle Forest Boulevard when a Dodge Charger made a left turn onto Bishopswood Drive across the motorcycle's path.

Spanopoulos, 27, stopped abruptly, causing the rear wheel of the motorcycle to leave the pavement, police said. The motorcycle flipped over and Spanopoulos was thrown into the side of the Charger.

Spanopoulos, who was wearing a helmet, died at the scene.

The driver of the Dodge Charger is cooperating, according to JSO, and the investigation is ongoing.
