During an interview with Mabrey police said that he admitted to searching for, downloading and viewing child pornography and told police that he thought there were "a couple thousand" images on his computer and "approximately 500 videos" of child pornography.

Officials said that after a forensic examination of Mabrey's laptop, they found images showing the sexual abuse of a prepubescent child that had recently been downloaded.

Mabrey's arrest was a part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide program launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat what authorities called "the growing epidemic of child exploitation and abuse."

Project Safe Childhood brings together federal, state and local resources to locate, apprehend and prosecute people who sexually exploit children and to identify and rescue victims.
