The original two-lane bridge was demolished during the second phase of the project. The new, two-lane concrete replacement bridge has 6½-foot wide sidewalks and 4-foot wide bicycle lanes. The new bridge has been realigned slightly to reduce the curve at the east end.

Construction for FDOT's $11.5 million Arlington River Bridge Replacement project began in November 2014 and is expected to be complete this winter. The project extends from Cesery Boulevard to Clifton Avenue and includes a new signalized intersection at Cesery Boulevard.

The project also included improvements to the interchange between University Boulevard and the Arlington Expressway with a roundabout at the intersection of University Boulevard and Colcord Avenue.

The third and final phase of the project includes removal of the temporary bridge and final resurfacing of the entire project. The new bridge will have decorative lighting, architectural railing and landscaping at both ends.

Local residents were able to view the new bridge prior to its public opening. Parsons Engineering, Superior Construction Company and FDOT hosted an informal walk over the bridge on Aug. 21.
