Argument over a woman leads to shooting

LAKE CITY, Fla. – Lake City police say an argument over a woman led to the one man being shot and killed and a second in jail without bond.

Police say the argument started shortly after 6 p.m. Friday at a home on Nassau Street. Authorities say when they responded to 911 calls of shots being fired they found Tommy E. Freeman, 39 (pictured below) lying face down on the ground in a backyard.

Freeman was transported to UF Health of Lake Shore, where he died of a gunshot wound to the chest.

Through witness statements, investigators said they identifed Delvin Devonte Wilson, 20, as the person who shot Freeman. Wilson turned himself into Lake City police on Saturday morning.

"Once again, our community has experienced another senseless act of violence which claimed another life. But at the same time, our citizens came forward and cooperated with police to voice what they saw," said Argatha Gilmore, Lake City police chief.

Wilson was booked into the Columbia County Detention Center on a charge of willful homicide.
