Adopting a pet can enrich your life, and buying a car at one dealership Saturday helped out animals looking for a permanent home.

Subaru of Orange Park hosted a ‘Pet Adoptathon’ from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at their Blanding Boulevard dealership.

Dozens of cats and dogs that were up for adoption are at the dealership. Subaru of Orange Park is covering all adoption fees so adopting an animal was free.

And, for each car sold during the event, Subaru of Orange Park pledged to donate 100 pounds of food to local pet shelters. There is also a pet food donation drive set up on site so people can make their own donations to local shelters.

Several rescue organizations are at the dealership including Safe Animal Shelter, Gallop Horse Rescue, The Jacksonville Humane Society, First Coast No More Homeless Pets and St. Francis Animal Hospital.

Those who missed the event can get links to the adoption agencies on the Subaru of Orange Park Facebook page.
