JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -

The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department is investigating the cause of a fire that destroyed a home in Paxon, early Thursday morning.

Around 4:20 a.m. JFRD was dispatched to a home on 5051 Broadway Avenue off Edgewood Avenue in reference to a fire.

When firefighters arrived, the home was fully involved in flames

No one was in the home at the time. In fact, JFRD says no one had been living there for a long time, so firefighters say the fire appears to be suspicious in nature.

JFRD closed all lanes of Broadway Avenue at North Edgewood Avenue for several hours during the fire fight and reopened the roadway just before 8 a.m.
