ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. -

A Louisiana man walking a dog across State Road 16 near the St. Augustine Outlet Mall on Tuesday night died after he was struck by a pickup truck, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers say 46-year-old Allen Gubser, of Bogalusa, La., was crossing State Road 16 at County Road 206 in an area not designated for pedestrians just before 9 p.m. when he was struck by a pickup truck driven by Erika Lazarock, 21, of St. Augustine.

Gubser was taken to Baptist South, where he died. Lazarock was not injured.

Troopers said the dog survived the accident and was brought to the hospital with Gubser, but they don't know what happened to it after the patient died.

According to the FHP report, charges are pending.
