Pedestrian killed on Westside

Victim died at scene of hit-and-run crash

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 28-year-old woman was killed in a hit-and-run crash early Saturday morning in the Ortega Farms area.

Officers responded to Catoma Street near Timuquana Road around 3 a.m. in reference to a sick or injured person.

A man driving by noticed a woman in the road and went door-to-door to find someone to call 911, because he didn't have his phone with him.

When officers arrived, they found evidence of a traffic crash. The victim, later identified as 28-year-old Heather Busbee, had died at the scene. Police said Busbee was a drifter.

Police are still looking for the driver and do not have a description of the vehicle yet.

They're hoping surveillance cameras at a nearby BP gas station captured the vehicle involved.

Police are going door-to-door in the neighborhood to see if anyone heard or saw anything early Saturday morning.

If you have any information, call the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office at 904-630-0500 or Crime Stoppers at 866-845-TIPS.
