A 63-year-old woman was struck by a car Sunday night in the eastbound lanes of U.S. 90 in Columbia County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers said Charlotte E. Rhoden was crossing the road near the intersection of County Road 113 about 9:35 in an unlit area with no crosswalk. According to the accident report, she walked directly into the path of an eastbound Nissan Sentra.

Rhoden was flown to UF Shands Medical Center in Gainesville with critical injuries.

The driver, Christopher Alford, of Lake City, and four passengers in the car were not injured.  The report said the accident remains under investigation.
