DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -

Beach safety officials have pulled the body of a Pennsylvania man from the surf off New Smyrna Beach.

The Daytona Beach News-Journal reports the 25-year-old man's body was found hours after he was reported missing on Sunday.

Officials say the man was in the water with a woman who signaled to lifeguards that they were in trouble.

Beach Safety Ocean Rescue Capt. David Vanis says two lifeguards were making their way toward the pair when the man went under. They were able to rescue the woman. They couldn't immediately find the man, whose identity has not yet been released.

Vanis says the man was visiting the area with friends.

His body was spotted some 150 yards from where he went under.
