JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -

A 55-year-old man has died after he was found shot and unresponsive at a Westside bus stop Monday morning, according to Jacksonville police.

A Jacksonville Transportation Authority bus driver discovered Joseph Ross at a bus stop on the corner of Lane and Hyde Grove avenues just before 6 a.m., police said.

Ross was taken to UF Health Jacksonville in life-threatening condition. He died Monday afternoon.

Detectives interviewed witnesses, conducted a canvass and looked for surveillance video in the area to try to determine what happened.

Police blocked off two northbound lanes of Lane at Hyde Grove.

Police initially called the incident a "suspicious death," but two hours later said the victim was still alive at the hospital. They said Monday afternoon he had died.

Anyone with any information about the shooting is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 866-845-TIPS.
