Police said the woman was hospitalized after sustaining injuries to her face. She has since been released.

They said when officers approached the home, they heard a gunshot go off. The SWAT team was then called out.

Police said there were no hostages or children in the home as of Monday evening.

"Well, when I first seen them, they always wave when I go by. That was about it," neighbor Lester Wills said. "A few times you'd hear them arguing, which most couples do. I saw my neighbors that I know that live in the trailer park there that said they do it almost every night."

"After hours of negotiations, we attempted to use some of our tools that the SWAT team has to look into the windows," said Melissa Bujeda of Jacksonville Sheriff's Office. "At that time, we were able to observe through cameras the suspect on the floor of the residence. At that time we made entry and medical personnel did pronounce the suspect deceased inside the residence."

Mayport Elementary and Middle schools were briefly on lockdown Monday as a result of this incident.

"At this time it's being investigated as a self-inflicted gunshot wound," said Bujeda.
