Police follow tips in Avondale killing
Detectives with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office say they are still following up on tips that could lead them to a man wanted on a murder charge.
They say the man seen in surveillance photos may have shot and killed an overnight employee working at Mojo no.4 Urban BBQ Whiskey Bar early Monday morning. He's also suspected of shooting and injuring a CVS worker.
Mojo reopened its doors Tuesday, receiving support from other businesses and people in the Avondale community. Early Monday morning, police said a gunman shot and killed 54-year-old Robert Sutton (pictured, below) in the rear of the restaurant as he and another man were cleaning.
Mojo released a statement Tuesday, saying, "The Mojo family sends our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Robert Sutton along with everyone at Lumley's Exhaust Cleaning. While he was not directly employed by Mojo, we have had a business relationship with the Lumley's for over ten years (Robert had been employed for five years) and consider them part of our family.
"This appears to have been a freak occurrence perpetrated by a disturbed individual - his actions are truly reprehensible and senseless.
"We would like to thank the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office for their hard work and professionalism - we are confident they will quickly bring to justice the person responsible for this tragedy.
"We also would like to thank our neighboring businesses for their show of support, as well as our many loyal customers who have called, emailed and texted to express support and concern."
"It's part of the community, important to us," Avondale resident Cindy Sealock said. "We love this area and they bring a lot to this area."
Anyone who has any information about these shootings or the identity of the robber is asked to call the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office at 904-630-0500 or email JSOCrimeTips@jaxsheriff.org. To remain anonymous and receive a possible reward up to $3,000, call Crime Stoppers at 866-845-TIPS.
