Police ID remains found in missing toddler search

JSO says car found with human remains inside was in pond since 2003

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Police have identified the human remains that were inside a car found last week in a pond during the search for missing toddler Lonzie Barton, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office announced Tuesday.

The car, a Mazda RX-7, was found by police divers searching a pond off Bowden Road near Interstate 95.

The remains inside belong to missing Aviation Machinist's Mate 3rd Class Yaroslav Iventyev, police said.

Iventyev (pictured), 28, was reported missing on Feb. 1, 2003. Iventyev was driving a Maxda RX-7 when he left Russian Moscow Nights restaurant, just off University Boulevard South, after having dinner with friends. He was reported missing when he didn't show up for work the next day at NAS Jacksonville.

Once the car was pulled out of the water, it took firefighters using a pry bar and sledge hammer to get the doors open.

Investigators are still waiting to learn a cause of death, but foul play is not suspected, police said.
