ACWORTH, Ga. -

Police in Atlanta's northwest suburbs are investigating a crash that claimed the life of a pedestrian and resulted in charges of drunken driving and vehicular homicide.

Cobb County police say 50-year-old James Underwood of Acworth was standing near his Ford F-150 pickup truck in Acworth around 12:40 a.m. Saturday. Police say he had stopped while distributing advertising signs along the side of the road.

Police say a Chevy Silverado pickup struck Underwood's Ford F-150 head-on. Police say Underwood, who was standing near his truck, was struck by one or both of the vehicles and knocked to the ground. He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police say the driver of the Silverado is facing charges of driving under the influence and first-degree homicide by vehicle.
