Metto Avenue shooting scene
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -

Police are searching for a gunman who ran after shooting another man outside a Westside home on Tuesday afternoon.

About 2 p.m. the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office was called to a mobile home on Metto Avenue in a neighborhood off 103rd Street just west of Interstate 295.  Officers found 32-year-old Stephen Small with a gunshot wound. He was taken to UF Health Jacksonville in critical condition.

Police said Wednesday that according to medical staff, Small's injuries are "not survivable."

A witness told police a man with a gun ran from the scene.

Officers, some with K-9 teams, were going door-to-door in a three-block radius telling residents to be on the lookout for the gunman.

"The area is saturated with officers," JSO Sgt. Dan Janson said. "We're doing a search at this point."

Anyone with information is asked to call JSO at 904-630-0500 or Crime Stoppers at 866-845-TIPS.
