JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -

Police in Jacksonville are trying to identify a man who they said scammed a 69-year-old woman in a Walmart parking lot last week.

The woman told police that after shopping at the store in the 10900 block of San Jose Boulevard about 2 p.m. Jan. 14, she was approached in the parking lot by the man.

He told her he had found a large sum of money and if she paid a collateral payment she would be entitled to a portion of the money, police said. A female accomplice went with the victim to the bank, where she withdrew money from her account, police said.

The victim handed over the money as well as numerous jewelry items as collateral to the accomplice, who then gave them to the man.

The victim never heard from the two again.

Police obtained surveillance photos of the man.

Anyone who has any information on his identity is asked to call the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office at 904-630-0500 or Crime Stoppers at 866-845-TIPS.
