JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Work has begun on a Florida Department of Transportation project to upgrade roadway signs along Interstates 10 and 95 near the downtown interchange of the two major thoroughfares.
The new signs are designed to make traveling through the interchange more driver-friendly by providing clear direction to specific ramps. In addition, mile-marker style signs will be placed every few hundred feet along each ramp for driver reference in the event of a breakdown or emergency to provide location specifics for emergency services, officials said.

The majority of the work on the project is anticipated during nighttime hours, officials said. Traffic impacts on I-95 are scheduled starting at 7:30 p.m. for single-lane closures and starting at 10 p.m. for double-lane closures. Traffic impacts on I-10 are scheduled starting at 7:30 p.m. for single-lane closures and starting at 9:30 p.m. for double-lane closures.
End time for all lane closures is 6 a.m. to avoid disrupting rush hour traffic.
FDOT hired Traffic Control Products Inc. of Tampa to complete the work in the spring for $478,000.
