Local restaurants hit with violations

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – First in this week's Restaurant Report Card, a hot dog cart was forced to close up shop and several restaurants were cited for violations that can make you sick.

According to the latest inspection report, Bennie E. Alexander's hot dog stand was forced to temporarily stop serving food last week after an inspector noted it did not have any running water.

The report goes on to say the employee was working with food without first washing his hands. The hot dog stand was also cited for not storing cole slaw at cold enough temperatures.

The inspector noted that the hot dog stand was not set up or operating during a follow-up visit. I went to check up on Bennie E. Alexander's on University Boulevard where it's usually set up, but the cart was not there.

Also on our Restaurant Report Card is Carmine Pie House located on 2677 Forbes Street, that received 16 violations during an inspection last week.

According to the report, the manager had to throw out tiramasu and two cheesecakes because they were not being stored at cold enough temperatures in the display cooler. The inspector noted there was a problem with the cooler and the manager fixed the issue.

Carmine Pie House was also cited for not providing soap for the handwash sink in the outside area. The restaurant corrected those violations and did not have to go through a follow-up inspection.
