JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A search committee has recommended Dr. Thomas Beaver to be the next medical examiner for the Fourth Judicial Circuit.
Beaver, the chief pathologist for Oakland, Calif., edged Dr. Valeria Rao, the current medical examiner, by a narrow margin.

Rao has been under fire for her management style and practices, so Gov. Rick Scott asked a search committee to come up with some other candidates.
The committee's findings will now go to the State Medical Examiners Commission, which will make a recommendation to Scott.
