SeaWorld releases manatee in Bonita Springs
A manatee is back in the southwest Florida waters after months of rehabilitation at Lowry Park Zoon in Tampa and SeaWorld in Orlando.
Orlando television station WESH reports the manatee named Red Bone was released in Bonita Springs on Thursday.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission rescued the manatee in February during a red tide episode in the waters off southwest Florida.
The manatee was first taken to the Tampa zoo. But because a large number of manatees were brought there due to red tide-related illnesses, Red Bone was taken to Orlando on March 6.
He was medically cleared and SeaWorld's Animal Rescue Team took him to Bonita Springs, which is well-known for its manatee population.
