JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Children at Wolfson Children's Hospital will be getting a very special treat this Christmas thanks to one of the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Maurice Jones-Drew and members of the Jaguars held a toy drive at the Microsoft Store at the St. Johns Town Center Monday night, and Jaguars fans showed up in full force to help.
Fans brought dozens of stuffed animals, toys and games to help the Maurice Jones-Drew Foundation Christmas toy drive.
"Oh, they're excited about it. They love the Jaguars and it's good to see the players and how excited they are to see the fans coming out here," said Jags fan, Stephanie Rains.
In exchange for bringing two toys to the Town Center, fans received autographs from Mojo and other members of the Jaguars.
"Throughout the years I've visited Baptist and Wolfson's and all these different hospitals, and we see the children there," said Jones-Drew. "You know, when you see them, no one's there, or they've flown in from somewhere else and they're not getting gifts, so we've had stores donate, but we thought this year it'd be better if we had the community donate and kind of help out and do some great things. I've been there a couple of times at Christmas and kids aren't able to spend it with their families, unable to get gift, so this is a way for us to have the community kind of help us help them."
Aside from some fun with the Jaguars, fans say they got a great lesson in holiday giving.
"I think it's a great foundation. I think it's a wonderful way for the kids to see a role model in that spotlight and to see the kind of things that he's doing for the community, and just how he's helping children. It's a good lesson for them to learn," said Rains.
The toys gathered Monday night will go to children at Wolfson who have to spend Christmas in the hospital for treatment or surgery.
