Sumter County officials confirmed a sinkhole opened up between two homes in a Villages neighborhood Saturday morning.

Firefighters were called to a home on Chalmer Terrace around 8:52 a.m. after the hole was reported.

Officials said they roped off the area but the home closest to the sinkhole was abandoned.

Crews are on scene trying waiting to see if the hole stabilizes.
