ST. AUGUSTINE BEACH, Fla. -

Many motorists hoping to get a spot on the beaches of St. Johns County this Memorial Day had to make other arrangements.

According to county administrators, sand conditions on southern St. Augustine Beach through Crescent and Butler beaches were not suitable for beach driving today and only four-wheel-drive vehicles were allowed onto the sand.

On Sunday, dozens of cars got stuck in the sand of Jacksonville's Hugeunot Memorial Park -- the only Duval County beach that allows vehicles on the beach.   Some of them were swamped by the incoming tide before they could be moved.
