1 man caught, other on run, after breaking into home & stealing car

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. – A 19-year-old St. Johns County man was arrested Saturday after the Sheriff's Office says he broke into a home and stole a car.

Sgt. Catherine Payne with the Sheriff's Office says Christopher Wafer was one of two men who broke into a home just before noon Saturday and stole a car while people were leaving the home.

The two eventually crashed the car and fled on foot, according to Payne.

Deputies were able to catch Wafer and arrested him on a violation of probation charge. Payne said additional charges are pending.

The second man has not been caught and Payne says there is an outstanding warrant for his arrest.

Deputies were given a very vague description of the man by witnesses and are seeking further information through the investigation.

After the incident happened, deputies searched the area of SR-16 in cars and by helicopter, hoping to find the suspect.

Anyone with information is asked to call the St. Johns Sheriff's Office at 904-824-8304.
