NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. -

A 14-year-old surfer was bitten by a shark on Wednesday afternoon in New Smyrna Beach, according to Volusia County Beach Safety Ocean Rescue.

Officials said the teen from Edgewater was surfing near the jetty in New Smyrna Beach in about 4 feet of water when the shark bite occurred.

The teen suffered a minor cut on the foot and was treated on scene before going to the hospital on his own, according to beach officials.

The shark was not spotted by anyone, so it's unclear how big the shark was or what kind.
