A Nassau man is in custody following a shoot off with deputies.

YULEE, Fla. -

SWAT teams from the Nassau County and Jacksonville Sheriff's Offices were involved in a standoff near Yulee, which lasted for nearly 18 hours.

Deputies said shortly before 4 p.m. Saturday they took the man barricaded inside the home into custody without any injuries.

"We had to use gas to actually get him to come out," said Roy Henderson with the Nassau County Sheriff's Office.

Relatives and a girlfriend from out of state alerted authorities that a man was threatening suicide, around 10 p.m. Friday, according to Henderson.

Henderson said the man pointed a gun towards law enforcement.

"You can see him a lot of the time -- he'd have a handgun (a Glock)," said Henderson.

Police responded early Saturday morning to assist Nassau County deputies, who had been at the scene in the Lofton Creek neighborhood off A1A since Friday night.

Nassau County Sheriff Bill Leeper said family members were concerned about a man around 10 p.m. Friday. Investigators have not yet released the man's name.

The 57-year-old white male accused of starting the standoff is being taken to the hospital to be evaluated and then he will be arrested on aggravated assault charges, authorities said.

Twelve nearby homes were evacuated as a safety precaution.
