'Tee off downtown' kicks off Players week

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – It may be further than a 9-iron away, but the 'Tee Off Downtown' event officially kicks off the week of The Players Championship with music, food and fun.

The event was held at the shipyards downtown Saturday night.

Musician and former pro surfer Donavan Frankenreiter performed, but earlier in the day, 20 contest winners got a chance to wake-surf with him on the St. Johns River.

The concert features food trucks - including Taco Lu, on its maiden voyage.

"I'm super excited about the players but this year is special because I'm going to be on number 12 doing bangin shrimp for entire week. Finally have a food truck, literally today," said Don Nicol.

Drink proceeds benefit local and growing non-profit Rethreaded, which helps women escape the sex trade.

"It's amazing, amazing publicity for us we're going to use all money for training event to hire 4 more women so big deal for us," Kristen Keen said.

"It's a great idea, we have a great place on the water and everyone likes to come out and have a good time," Ally King said.
