Following a meeting between the teen, his parent and school officials of Pacetti Bay Middle School, the teen became irate when he learned that he had to return to class, deputies said. They said when he refused, the school resource deputy tried to escort the student.

Deputies said the teen became combative, grabbing the deputy's arm and pushing him. He then placed the deputy in a headlock, punched him once in the mouth, and was attempting to grab items on his belt, including his handgun, deputies said.

The deputy was able to push the teen away and stun him with a Taser, then secure him.

St. Johns County Fire Rescue responded and medically cleared the teen for transport to the jail.
