YULEE, Fla. -

A Nassau County jury found 18-year-old Justen Dean Alexander guilty of sexual battery on a 5-year-old girl.

Prosecutors say Alexander, then-17, sexually abused the child between August 2012 and March 2013. The child told her mother about the inappropriate contact and she reported it to the victim’s school guidance counselor, who called police.

While Alexander’s crime is a life felony, because the defendant committed the crime as a juvenile, he cannot be sentenced to life in prison.

A judge will determine Alexander’s sentence on August 21.

Assistant State Attorneys Donna Thurson and Beverly Collins prosecuted the case.
