Teen pleads guilty in 2011 park killing

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 19-year-old man pleaded guilty Monday to charges of second-degree murder, aggravated battery and carrying a concealed firearm.

Tamarius Bowes was sentenced to 20 years in prison, with a 20-year minimum-mandatory, followed by 10 years of probation for the second-degree murder charge. He received the same sentence for the aggravated battery charge and five years in prison for carrying a concealed firearm. The sentences run concurrently.

In March 2011, police were called to Beverly Hills Park after a fight involving more than 100 people broke out in the park. Charles Jenkins, 23, was shot and killed in the incident. A 9-year-old boy was shot in the leg. The child has recovered from his injuries.

Bowes admitted to carrying a concealed firearm without a permit during the incident. He also admitted to shooting his .38 caliber handgun as he ran from the scene.
