VIDEO: A holdup in Yulee ended with deputies shooting and wounding one of the suspects they were chasing. Deputies were called to a Kangaroo Express on US-17 and pursued a pickup truck to just south of the state line. Deputies opened fire after the driver attempted to hit one of them.

YULEE, Fla. -

The Nassau County Sheriff's Office and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement are investigating after one of three suspects in a Kangaroo store robbery was shot at the end of a pursuit.

News4Jax was told that an 18-year-old with a shotgun held up the convenience store about 11:10 p.m., then jumped into a white pickup truck which sped north on U.S. Highway 17.

The Sheriff's Office says the pickup was spotted driving erratically at a high rate of speed, then went through barricades warning that the bridge over the St. Marys River was closed.  The pickup then started to back up, attempting to run over one of the deputies.

After Deputy D. Palecek dove out of the way, he and two others -- Sgt. J. Stull and Deputy M. Hunter -- opened fire at the pickup, which stopped and all three suspects ran.

"At that point the three occupants inside the truck jumped out and ran into the woods and they were captured," Nassau County Sheriff Bill Leeper said.

The driver had gunshot wounds to his hand and shoulder.

Good thing no one was seriously injured, particularly none of the officers were hurt," said Nassau County Sheriff Bill Leeper.

The driver, identified as 28-year-old Donnie Carroll, was treated at the scene and transported to UF Health Jacksonville, where he remains under guard. He will be charged with auto theft, accessory after the fact to armed robbery, fleeing and eluding and aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer with a motor vehicle.

Damonique Gaddist The Sheriff's Office said passenger Damonique Gaddist (right), 18, has admitted to committing the robbery. He was charged with armed robbery, auto theft and petty theft.

The third person in the car was a 15-year-old girl listed as a runaway. The Sheriff's Office say she was Carroll's girlfriend.

The juvenile was charged with accessory after the fact.

All three were residents of Ridgeville, S.C., and the Ford pickup they were driven was stolen from Greensboro, N.C.  The Sheriff's Office says the three are also suspects in an armed robbery in Dorchester, S.C.
