The Players donates millions to local charities

$7.1 million in contributions broke last year's record

PONTE VEDRA, Fla. – The Players Championship announced Thursday a record-breaking contribution to local charities in 2013.

PGA Tour Commissioner Tim Finchem said $7.1 million was generated for local charities, breaking last year's record-breaking total of $6.5 million. The commissioner attributes this increase to a growing, dedicated fan base, support from PwC, a partner of the event, and the efforts of volunteers and the community.

Since the event moved to the area in 1977, nearly $60 million has been donated to more than 300 charities throughout Northeast Florida.
