A 26-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a crash Friday afternoon in Regency.

The crash happened in the 9500 block of Regency Square Boulevard at Monument Road about 5:30 p.m.

Police said James Smith was heading south on Monument Road on his motorcycle when a black Cavalier was heading north trying to make a left turn onto Regency Square Boulevard.

Det. D.B. Edmonds said the Cavalier started to turn on a yellow turn arrow and was hit on the passenger side by the motorcycle. The Cavalier then ran into a pickup truck that was turning onto Monument Road.

Smith was taken to a nearby hospital, where he died.

Traffic was backed up due to the crash. Southbound traffic on Monument was diverted to Regency Square Blvd North, and northbound traffic was turned around in the 200 block of Monument.
