University of Florida students ask for early voting site on campus

Students at the University of Florida created a petition asking for an early voting site on campus.

The petition had 1,800 signatures.  It was given to the Alachua County Supervisor of Elections Friday in hopes county officials would consider creating an early voting site.

Students asked for an early voting site for the 2014 elections at the Reitz Student Union Building.  The building is used for election day, but the Florida Division of Elections rejected the site to be used for early voting.

The American Civil Liberties Union of Florida believes using the student union or another campus building is needed to be used for early voting.  The Liberties Union says it will give thousands of students and staff the chance to vote.
