JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -

Police in Jacksonville are trying to identify a man seen punching a woman in the head as she left a Northwest Jacksonville convenience store Monday night.

Surveillance video from Quickway Food Mart at 770 N. McDuff Ave. shows the woman leaving the store about 9:30 p.m. when a man approaches her from behind and begins punching her.

The man left the area on foot, along with another man who had been standing in front of the store when the woman arrived, police said.

They said the woman suffered minor bruising in the area of her left eye.

Police said the battery appears totally unprovoked.

The woman kept a cellphone to her ear, fell against a car that was parked in front of the store and then walked out of the camera range. Police said she does not know who the man is.

The man is described as 25 years old, 5 feet 11 inches tall and weighing 200 pounds, with unkempt hair and wearing all black clothing.

Anyone who has any information on his identity is asked to call the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office at 904-630-0500 or Crime Stoppers at 866-845-TIPS.
