Man identified in Vilano Bridge accident

VIDEO: A pedestrian was struck by a pizza delivery truck on the west end of Vilano bridge in St Johns Co. The accident happened around 8 p.m. The Sheriff's office says the bridge is open to traffic.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -

The Vilano Bridge reopened Thursday night after being closed for hours while authorities assisted a pedestrian hit by a pizza delivery vehicle.

Bicyclist hit on Vilano Bridge

St. Augustine police told Channel 4 that a he Five Star Pizza delivery SUV hit David Edward Nixon, 54  of St. Augustine, while he was walking at the base of the bridge Thursday night. Dixon sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to UF Health Jacksonville, according to officials.

The driver of the SUV was transported to Flagler Hospital as a precaution and underwent drug and alcohol toxicology tests.
