Volusia County deputies charged a 16-year-old with attempted murder after they say he shot at a deputy on Friday night.

Dominic Jorgensen-Cloutier, 16, was suspected in an armed robbery at a convenience store and fired at the officers when they went to question Jorgensen-Cloutier.

Deputies went to Jorgensen-Cloutier's girlfriend's home on Landsdowne Avenue at around 9 p.m. Friday when Jorgensen-Cloutier fled and hid in the backyard, according to the report.

VCSO said deputy John Vedder, 40, and his K-9 partner, tracked down Jorgensen-Cloutier and ordered him to come out with his hands up. According to deputies, Jorgensen-Cloutier instead jumped out with a revolver in his hands and fired at the deputy multiple times, striking the deputy once in his body armor vest.

Vedder's K-9 partner, Rudo, stopped the teen with a bite to the hand and other deputies quickly secured the boy, according to deputies.

Vedder, who has been with VCSO since 2000, didn't require medical attention.

Orange City police are charging Jorgensen-Cloutier with armed robbery and theft in the Wednesday robbery of the Kangaroo Express on Volusia Avenue. The Sheriff's Office is charging him with attempted murder of a law enforcement officer.
