WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -

Jurors say a retired Delray Beach attorney should receive $7.7 million for the pain and suffering he's endured since his neighbor's dogs bit him.

Jerry Kern told the Palm Beach Post the collection process won't be easy. Former neighbors Laurie and Bruce Cossar didn't defend themselves during the one-day trial last week. They sold their house after Kern filed a lawsuit in 2012 and moved to the Turks and Caicos.

Kern was attacked outside his home by three mixed-breed dogs in December 2011. He says he's had lingering pain caused by twisting and turning while trying to fend off the dogs and eventually had a back operation.

He says Laurie Cossar wrote an apology letter after the attack, while her husband blamed Kern for provoking the dogs.
