LAKE CITY, Fla. -

A Lake City woman was arrested Monday on aggravated assault domestic violence charges after beating a man with a large wooden pencil.

The Columbia County Sheriff's Office said the pencil was 18 inches long and 2 inches wide.

Terri Walters told the arresting officer that she was using the pencil to defend herself. According to the arrest report, the man had bruises and scratch marks along his arms, chest and head. Walters was bleeding from her leg and had a minor injury to her left ear, the report said.

The incident occurred on Northwest Parrish Court in Lake City in front of Walters' children, and the Department of Children and Families is looking into the case.

Walters was arrested for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill and for misdemeanor battery.
