ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -

A woman is dead after driving into a retention pond in St. Petersburg after losing control of her minivan.

St. Petersburg police say 35-year-old Jennifer Wolfe called her husband around 12:40 a.m. Monday, saying she'd been run off the road and had ended up in a retention pond.

James Wolfe called 911 and drove to the area to search for his wife.

The Tampa Bay Times reports rescue crews didn't immediately see the van, but a Pinellas County Sheriff's helicopter spotted it and divers broke the window and pulled Wolfe out. She was taken to Northside Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Deputies say her van landed on top of another vehicle that had been submerged in the water for some time. No one was found inside.
