Woman guilty in Ponte Vedra crashes

PONTE VEDRA, Fla. – A woman whose SUV struck a bicyclist, a police car, a motor scooter and two other cars head-on in a series of crashes in 2010 has been found guilty in a non-jury trial.

Andrea Zampatti was driving a Range Rover on State Road A1A in Ponte Vedra when she hit a couple of mailboxes, then a 65-year-old bicyclist and a police cruiser.

Zampatti tried to hit another deputy trying to stop her on Mickler's Road, deputies said. Then she crashed into a motor scooter and two other cars on Palm Valley Road.

After the crash, deputies said, Zampatti took off running. She was later caught and taken to jail, charged with aggravated assault and aggravated battery and numerous traffic violations.

Deputies said alcohol was believed to have been a factor.

Three crash victims were hospitalized.

Zampatti is scheduled to be sentenced Aug. 30.
