A 71-year-old woman pleaded guilty to hiring a "hit man" to kill her daughter-in-law, according to the State Attorney's Office.
In October 2013, Diana Costarakis solicited an undercover detective to kill her daughter-in-law, Angela Costarakis, for $5,000, authorities said.
State attorneys said Diana Costarakis told the undercover detective her daughter-in-law was a bad mother to her 6-year-old granddaughter and was planning on taking the child with her after she divorced Costarakis' son.
Diana Costarakis provided the victim's picture to the detective as well as the victim's address and what kind of vehicle she drove, authorities said.
During the undercover meetings, Diana Costarakis gave the detective multiple cash payments totaling $2,000 and promised him he would receive the rest of the $5,000 once her daughter-in-law was dead, according to state attorneys.
Authorities said Diana Costarakis also told him the victim wore expensive jewelry and that once the job was complete, he could take the jewelry off the victim's body and sell it.
Costarakis now faces 15 years in prison after recently pleading guilty to one count of solicitation to commit a capital felony. She is set to be sentenced the week of Sept. 22.
