Teen possibly bitten by shark at Jacksonville Beach

JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. – A 19-year-old woman was bitten by something in the ocean on Tuesday afternoon, and the wounds appeared to be consistent with a shark bite, according to Jacksonville Beach lifeguards.

Colleen Malone (picture, right), of Cumming, Ga., was bitten on the foot at about 12:45 p.m. at Ninth Avenue South.

She was taken to Baptist Medical Center Beaches.

Malone was staying in town with her cousin at a friend's home near the beach.

"She was freaking out, running in the water, running back in yelling, 'I just got bit, I just got bit,'" said Kaity Parhm, Malone's cousin. "And we had just been joking around about sharks and stuff. And she had just come running in. Nobody thought she was really that hurt, but she walked out and there was blood everywhere."

"I saw her screaming and running toward her mother, but when I looked at sand, there was blood on the sand," witness Eric Rodriguez said.
