Women sought for using stolen checks

VIDEO: Crime alert has police searching for suspects in connection with check forgery and robbery. They say checks stolen from a car were then used at more then 25 stores from Jacksonville to St. Mary's.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -

Police in Jacksonville are trying to identify three women who they said stole a checkbook during a car burglary and have forged and uttered the checks at more than 25 stores.

The car burglary was reported April 21 in the 1200 block of Stimson Street on the Westside.

Since then, the thieves have forged checks at Winn-Dixie stores in Jacksonville, Callahan, Fernandina Beach and St. Marys, Georgia; several Lowe's Home Improvement stores; a Home Depot store in the 800 block of Lane Avenue; a Walmart in the 6800 block of Normandy Boulevard; and NAPA Auto Parts in Middleburg.

Anyone who has any information on the thieves' identities or their vehicle is asked to call the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office at 904-630-0500 or Crime Stoppers at 866-845-TIPS.
