38.1 lbs is good for Kingfish win

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – David Pickett on the "That's What I Do" was the winner of the 34th annual Greater Jax Kingfish Tournament.

He and Jerry Smith's 38.1 pound kingfish was the biggest caught on the day and Smith said that it was on one of the first casts of the day, "Started out good this morning offshore and had had two fish over 30 lbs. by 9 o'clock."

Jerry Smith was the 1st angler to weigh in a fish and just 6 would hit the scales before a storm came through the marina and stopped the weigh-in for 50 minutes.  Tyler Smith said that he caught his fish right as the storm was approaching, "We kinda ran from it a bit, the lightning was crazy."

All told, 193 boats participated this morning and 54 weighed in fish.

Chris Eggers on the "Blue Steel" came in 2nd with a kingfish of 35.5 lbs.

The redfish and shootout tournament begins Saturday morning, ending at 2PM, followed by the awards ceremony at 4:30.
