Gators LB Anzalone will have shoulder surgery
Florida linebacker Alex Anzalone will miss the rest of spring practice following shoulder surgery.
Coach Will Muschamp says Anzalone, a 6-foot-3, 230-pound freshman from Wyomissing, Pa., had surgery Monday to repair a torn labrum in his right shoulder.
Muschamp says the injury usually takes four months to heal, so Anzalone should be ready for fall practice. He had been working as the team's backup middle linebacker.
Muschamp says "it's a freak deal," adding that Anzalone "just got hit on it the wrong way" during a tackling drill.
The Gators already were thin at linebacker following the graduation of starters Jon Bostic and Jelani Jenkins. Freshman Matt Rolin (knee) is out for the spring, leaving Antonio Morrison, Michael Taylor, Darrin Kitchens, Neiron Ball, Jeremi Powell and Daniel McMillian at the position.
